MAX: Spaceship Detailing

Hello all,

I am currently working on a new set of video tutorials, walking the viewer through the creation of a very basic spaceship hull, then detailing that hull with appropriate panels, greebles/nurnies, etc. to make it an effective high-detail model. The two attached images show my progress so far on the ship. Yes, everything you see is modeled, no textures, and no bloody scripts or plugins used.

I am posting this WIP thread so that I can get feedback regarding what kind of detailing-related issues people would like to see addressed in these vids.

Incidentally, this video set is likely to be a Sponsor Member tutorial.

These images do not come from the video set itself, but I will be covering how to model greebles very similar to these:

Fine. I'm taking a break to work on these tutorials. Any comments/requests/suggestions concerning this vid set, as opposed to my other un-related WIP threads?

ah, fair enough didn't mean to cause offence.

anyway in terms of detail i particularly would like to see well i guess it would have to be engine detail/complex pipework arrangements etc my lack of imagination in this area is shocking.

cheers

Beautiful. It's what I've been hoping for.

I'd like to see some various designs on, say, cannon/weapon battery emplacements. What makes a good one, proportions, that sort of thing. And just seeing the creation of greebles will be all I needed.

Much anticipation of this one.

Okay, we have a request for engines with pipework, which is in the plan already, and a request for different types of gun emplacements, which has been under consideration for a while.

Any other requests? Keep 'em coming. After all, these videos are for the benefit of the members. The better we know what you want, the better we can deliver it.

Maybe some rigging? like the landing gear to put them in various stands( in/ out / half way )
Or is it only modeling?

good point about the landing gear Spectre which makes me wonder Jedi have you decided what kind of size/class of ship you are planning to model? i.e. are you planning a big capital ship with landing bays, a bridge, radar/communication arrays etc? or are you thinking of something more along the size of a cruiser? (or maybe something smaller again)

great work already by the way, i love this kind of thing.

This is a smaller ship, like cruiser size or less. Hadn't really intended to do landing gear, but may have to think about doing so now. It's not a bad idea.
