How To Make a Hull with Line Spline

How To Make a Hull with Line Spline

New Added downloadable .AVI file...

Hi...

Thought I'd give it a go and turn into a Video Tutorial something that I just read about over on www.3dkingdom.com (specifically, http://www.3dkingdom.org/index.php?n...article&sid=77)

There was some confusion during the steps as presented, so I thought I'd make a video tutorial.

I don't use splines a whole lot, so I'm forcing myself to do tutorials involving them.

This is a tutorial on making a ocean going vessel's hull, but I'm sure could be easily used for starships, etc.

It's a Beginner's Tutorial.

The streaming video can be viewed from here:
http://www.dhimaging.com.au/3D/tutor...ull-flash.html

There's no sound and was made with Camtasia - so go get the codec if you don't already have it.

Cheers

Splines and surface mod's and such are great ways to make this work.

Although I didn't watch it all, as its still a bit big even with no audio, I can tell it might help some people. Next time though, for such a huge streaming media, maybe have the audio or make it a bit smaller without the audio.

1000 Pogs to Thee!

Thanks D3D!

Sorry Malach...

I'm use to making QuickTime movies at my day job and those are distributed on CDs or LAN, so size isn't an issue.

I thought with Flash caching, the streaming would be livable.

I'll change my res and make it a downloadable tutorial next time.

Cheers for the pods and check back next time, Malach.

Thanks for putting this on the first page, OlBlue! At the top, too!!

Happy, happy...

And over 200 visits - that's really cool. I knew I should have thrown a counter on the tutorial itself so I could see how many times it was viewed.

I watched it, and it was great! Good job, Sandman!

I have yet to put it to use, but I will post it when I do.

Hey Malach

I might re-record it at a lower resolution (and not stumble with some of the parts) and make it a downloadable .MOV or .AVI

When I save it out as an AVI at the current resolution, the quality is pretty crap. I can't tell what the text is, but if you know the max screen layout, you'll get by.

But I'd rather re-record if i give it out as an .AVI

No dramas, but I've been up since 330am and it's now 11p. Gotta crash.

===

Thanks Jackobeast!!

Looking forward to seeing your renders.

Here's a couple of renders based on the hull from the tute.
The clay scanline render with not-much-detail isn't great in one of them, but the wires shows the shape of the hull:
