Vista Ive Taken The Plunge

Ive finally installed Home Premium Version of Vista 32bit, couldnt bare the thought of the problems I would face with the 64 bit version.

So far so cood disabeled the user account control, that pissed me off with in 5 seconds.

But so far so good. Going to install max and photoshop now these are the programs I need to work or I wil cry haha

Its alright. The built in protection is annoying but Ive turned it off and am using AVG for my anti virus. The interface takes a bit of time to get used to but you can style it so that you can navigate in an XP fashion to feel at home.

Wil lbe installing 3DS Max soon really hope it runs smoothly, if it does ill be doing some tutorial action with the dual monitor setup and vista

You really shouldn't do everything at root Its easy to bugger up your system plus if your security is comprimised it gives whoever access to root commands. Its a security thing they borrowd from unix base distros. Don't know about Vista but sudo works pretty well in Linux.

The user account control is totally pointless.

I changed the live updated from everyday to every sunday at 1pm and it was asking if I was sure...... of course I am sure. I mean its kind of pointless.

Ive still got the windows defender running for spyware and got their firewall running, have always used that.

I just like to use AVG for a anti virus. Stick to what I know works.

Sorry if you've used Vista and already know this Edge but with the UAC on you basically have to click yes to do anything. Installing a program for example - you'll be in the middle of it, the screen fades to grey and asks you are you sure. You can't do anything else as it blocks everything away till you've clicked yes or no. The theory is good (as it prevents screw ups) but it's just badly implemented in vista - especially as it happens even when logged in as an admin.

He is totally right. My gf just bought a new laptop with Vista.. and while its, uh, pretty... its way over the top on security and I swear its a memory hog. I'll stick with XP while it's still supported.

I'm also not a fan of the bubbly floatiness they have going on. When I drag a window on the screen I want it to move with the mouse, not feel that it's floating along just behind it!

Yeh it stores programs in the memory so they load faster, you can boost virtual memory with a pen drive if that would help.

Nope, not used Vista yet, I just know the idea from using Linux. It works well in linux as you just sudo the command to get to root then put in your user name and password, or the root password depending on the distro, and that's it. Really does sound quite an annoying way it is implemented in Vista. That's a shame because it is quite an effective way of doing things.
