No unfinished work, shows lack of dedication and what not, Organize all your best stuff, character, enviornment, lighting, etc, ONLY Use your best, and nothing else, if you have something you think is nice looking, but not your best, keep it in a pocket, most portfolio cases have pockets like that, and if they ask if u have done anything else, explain a bit about that one.

HAVE STORYS on why, how, and all that about EVERY peice in your portfolio, why you did this, how u did this, why u chose this project, etc, they will ask those questions, and just cause i felt like it isnt really a good answer :P Try and explain the proccess you were trying to learn at that point, how that peice furthered your knowledge in this said subject, and so forth, for animations, print a couple frames from it, and try and lay them out in a manner they can tell you took it from an animation :P But all and all, Try and keep consistency throughout your portfolio, layout, neatness, print sizes, titles, style, everything, keep it consistent, and to your style of artwork, and all that good stuff :P

Hey PCN,

Here are my suggestions.

I say, pick out your best and defintely put them into your demo reel. Remember, your demo reel is like a trailer to yourself, you do not want to put everything and all in there. Just enough for the employer to say oo and aah. For your portfolio, this is where you put your BIG stuff, the stuff that is even better than whats on your reel.

Once you land your interview, you want to be able to use this portfolio over and on top of your demo reel. Last thing you need is for your employer to think, "I've seen this before" You could even continue the process on your portfolio if you want. They always want to know how you approached and solved the problems at hand.

I would definitely pick pieces that show the most value, tone, composition, and lighting. Putting up a portfolio in 1 day does not cut it. You need at least a week just to get your portfolio running to a decent start.

Make sure to get one of those portfolio folders that have a business card slot in it. This way, you can make multiple portfolio's and use them as a leave behind and leave it with the employer. If they dont hire you now, they may take you up on a later offer.

That's it for now.

Good Luck.

PJ

just to add i totally agree with only showing finished stuff, but if you showing off your modelling, it doesn't mean it needs to be textured... you can show wireframes and things like that, especially if your going for a low polg game style job, because they want to check you know how to use detail.
