wacom tablet

Hi,

I have found a 6x8 wacom tablet forsale. they are asking $150.

Can anyone tell me if this is the Intuous3? Is that pen shown the one that measures pressure and angle? Is $150 a good buy?

thanks

Yes, that's the Intuous 3 and yes that pen measures pressure and angle. They generally sell new for about $300-$350, so $150 is a good deal, as long as it works? And make sure you're getting the mouse that is supposed to come with it too.

Also, if you have a wide screen monitor, you need the 6x11, not the 6x8. If you get the 6x8 and use it with a wide screen, you won't get full range of movement side to side.

Really? Maybe Wacom just tells you that so you'll buy the larger tablet. I got the 6x11 because their literature said it was necessary for wide screen and dual monitor setups.

Oh well.

How does the mouse work? I already have an excellent mouse. I don't need another one. Will I be able to use my normal mouse and the tablet at the same time?

I have a 4:3 dual CRT monitor setup. Is there some way to make this work with dual monitor? If not, its no big deal, I will just have to use one monitor.

Thanks

Looks like the same one I have except from what I can tell doesn't say WACOM on the front. Older models will have it different looking though.

Yes, you can use both mouses and the tablet.

You don't have to use the Wacom mouse, you can still use yours. But the Wacom mouse has a nice soft fabric underside so it's safe to use right on the tablet itself. I just don't see it in the picture, so I wanted to make sure you knew that you should be getting the mouse with the tablet, not just the pen.

Grab it! As soon as it's not damaged in any way, that's a sweet deal!

About the wide aspect tablets:
Wacom devices are generally used 1-on-1 mapped, so the position on screen is the position on the tablet. Now if you have two forms that are different, like 4:3 and wide, to avoid distortion, you will either have to not use part of your tablet(most common), or not use part of your screen. Afaik you can map your wacom to use both dual monitors, there are even utilities to "tap" your pointer to the other screen if you want to use the mapping for one screen only.
