| | | Perfection?
I was just thinking as I was modeling. I remember back to my art class in high school my art teacher said artists always makes mistakes a good artist knows how to hide them. Now he was more or less referring to traditional art. I was wondering do you think or believe the same applies for all forms of digital art as well? Is there a such thing as perfection in digital art?
I don't know if it is a question that has come up in interviews with the more well known 3d artists. Ever wonder if he/she is hiding numerous mistakes in their work?
I was just doing a small project and I only allowed for 7 insets instead of the 8 as per the reference. So I just stuck with 7. Kind of thinking no one would notice. Which brought up the thought above?

Perfection comes from the perfect mistake and that by chance, we create things we never would have otherwise.
Now stepping outside of my philisophical self, I've hid many things in my own work that no one else will ever see. You learn how to cover up things that don't necessarily want to come out the way you want it. Vice versa, somethings that accidentally come out of something you didn't intend, make the best circumstances.

Yep I agree, if we all managed the perfect render then there would be no need for post work.

I am by no means up to your standards as far as modeling goes but always aim for perfection. Even something that is maybe at the back of a model and won't be seen I will try to correct for my own piece of mind. Maybe as you progress towards professionalism you accept that perfection is impossible and feel happy to have unseen mistakes in your models. If I can't see a mistake I believe that the model must be perfect as without eveidence it must be.

no, digital art is the same as traditional art in that regard. you can only make something that looks amazing, but not perfect. nothing can be without a flaw in any way. at least that's what lots of physics laws tell us.
but yeah, good to strive for perfection, anyway. it's like interpolating slopes to get the shape of a curve from straight lines, with enough iterations, you can get close to the real shape.
as for production vs. personal work, you do tend to have to make concessions in production, but that's only a time constraint thing, it's still good to shoot for perfection within that scope too. makes you faster and more efficient
happy nov 1.

Your post Zerflag reminds me of Eagle's sig.
"The race for quality has no finish line so technically its more like a death march"
At least it is something similar to that anyways.
