| | | For Cris - Little Utility to capture KB activity during tuts
Hey Cris,
I was talking to a mate of mine about the tutorials here on 3D Palace. He is a programmer and we somehow got talking about a utility to show what keys are pressed on the keyboard and show them on the screen. So people can see what is going on, on some videos where shortcut keys are being pressed.
Anyways - the guy went ahead and created an alpha version, I suppose I just wanted to know if you would be interested in such a utility. Would make the tuts that much easier to follow.
You will be able to decide the position on screen where the keystrokes will show, and the size color of text etc..
Let me know what you think, btw all free of charge of course. This place rocks and I just wanted to try and offer something back.
Regards
Doc

Yeah, something showing keystrokes could definately be useful. If you can send further email to either enoch@3d-palace.com or cris@3d-palace.com that'd be awesome.

Hey,
He gave me the alpha tonight - we are testing it now, it's cool - it shows eg:
CTRL+W
H
ALT+Z
etc.. it a little bordeless window on top of max or whatever app yur running. It show's it for a specified time eg. 1sec.
He is going to add the options bit tommorrow - like defining the position on screen where you want the text to appear, the colour and size of the font. I also think he was going to make the time it appears adjustable.
Hope to have an almost fianl tommorrow.
I will pass on your comments
Regards

Sounds good.
any chance of having a definable set of keys to ignore?
How will this work with things like sticky keys in xsi ?
is it openGL driven or dx (makes a difference when capturing in camtasia)
why can't i download the video? |

Doc, you are definately still a sponsor mate. During the changeover some members lost their custom titles, however I will be sorting that out as soon as I can.
Regarding the app, it sounds fantastically useful, especially for apps like XSI where there are a lot of hotkeys used
email me at cris@3d-palace.com and I will chat to you about using this great sounding tool.

Hey Squid and Cris,
Squid - I can't tell you about DX or Mode. But I can tell you we have tested it with XSI and camtasia and Max and Camtasia and it works great.
As for sticky keys, what happens is: the utility shows the key until you let it go - the disapears a sce after you let go of the key. XSI behaves normally even though utility is showing the keystroke.
As for excluding certain keys - I will ask - I am not sure how much time he wants to dedicate to this, but lets see.
I have been giving him all your feedback, and I think he is glad to help.
Cris: I will email once I get the version with the options configurable.. then I will tell you all about it and you can give it a try.
Regards
