Unhappy "Hair and Fur" Modifier problem

This is my model in Edit Poly mode:

This is the same model, but with the "Hair and Fur" Modifier:

[IMG][/IMG]

The modifier is literally "flipping" all of the polys inside out. I tried going back into Edit Poly, selecting everything on the model and clicking "Flip", which seemed to fix the problem. However, I'm somewhat new to 3ds Max and I have no idea how leaving it Flipped will effect rigging/skinning/animation later on.

I tried placing hair on a basic cube and it didnt invert the cube's polys, so I'm guessing it's got something to do with the model itself. Any way I can fix this? =( I'm using the 2009 version of Max.

EDIT: Also, how can I set the hair to collide with the body/shoulders?

Remove the fur modifier and reset the xform and re-collapse the stack, then check for any inside out polys and flip just those ones.. Also to get a really good hair and fur soloution you need to hand map the uv co-ordinates.
