Export PAL Sequence

Hi,

I exported a .tiff-sequence out of max. I set the pixel-aspect to 1,42 to get a widescreen-display. When I import the images into after-effects and create a new composition by dragging them on the new Comp Button, the compīs aspect ratio is set to quadratic again. What do I have to do to create a wide-screen Pal-movie with Max and AfterEffects? Thanks for any Help

cheers

Is it possible, that I´ve to manually rescale the image-sequence in after-effects? Which means, I exported the images out of 3dsmax with a pixel aspect of 1,42, which gives me a kind of squezed look.
Then I imported them into afterEffects, created a new comp with the settings set to Pal 1,42. I place the sequence on the comp and resize it´s width to 142%.
If I do, everything looks fine to me, except when I export it as a h.264 quicktime movie (because of the filesize), or do I have to use the dv-pal setting for exporting it properly (which seems to make sense)?

I forgot to mention that I want to write the finished movie onto dvd. Is .mov the right format for this anyway?

Once you have imported your footage into after effects, right click on the footage and select interpret footage, in there you can set the aspect ratio to what you want.

Then when you create a comp from the footage all should be well.

Dont forget there is the toggle pixel aspect ratio correction button, or I think it might simply be called widescreen cant remember, anyway this will show you what it looks like when the aspect ratio is applied.

Hope this helps.

hey supertom44, thank you very much, it seems I totally overlooked this function.

The reason for this thread is, I am applying for an internship at an vfx-studio and they want a dvd in pal format. I don´t want to run into problems, like getting artifacts or distortion. Can I render the movie with the DV-Pal setting for quicktime or what would be the best format to choose? Thanks in advance

I personally always try to use quicktime format for vfx and animation, the main reason being the easy ability to step frame forward or backwards while watching.

For me if I was sending my reel to a company I would burn it to a dvd video, so it can be played on any dvd player just like a film.

Hopefully someone else can offer more advise as Im never 100% sure on what settings or format to choose myself.
