How to render in wireframe?

Hello,

this should be a simple question. I've been trying to render a 3d object in 3ds max in with the edges of it but I couldn't find how to do it. The only way I found is on Animation -> Preview but well the quality is poor. Applying a material and checking the wireframe box also works but then the inner part of the object is sort of transparent.

What I want to do is to render the way you see the object in 3ds max when you select smooth + highlights and hit F4 (to show the edges). It should be simple but I can't find it! :-(

Thanks!

Hello dude,

yeap, I guess that's the correct term.

But I mean this way:

But not this way (this one is transparent):

Damn I really can't explain things!

PS: Those are just some examples from Google, not my own work.

Do one simply by:

Create a composite material. Just click standard in the mat editor and choose composite. Keep old material when it asks. Then just select a standard in the first slot and click the wireframe check box. Go back up to the composite part. Then just add a new standard mat for the second slot and lower the value.. like 75 or something. Then render. Your wireframe should show up over the other standard mat.

If that didn't help, I can make pictures

You can set the standard to be any mat really.. if you use A&D mats, you can do that too. I will sometimes do a standard in the first slot for my wire and MR mat in the second slot with an AO map. So Im rendering an AO pass plus the wireframe. Hope that helped.

while this topic has been brought up, how would you do a wireframe render where the wireframe extrudes outwards?

It has been on my mind for a while now and I cant figure it out

Good stuff Kris (Y)

Hellkt - I think you have vray right? Just put the VrayEdgesTex map in the diffuse slot, it's a wireframe map.
