Question Hotkey Hassles

I've been trying to get some custom hotkey implemented to speed up my workflow, but I'm having some difficulties. It seems that damn near every key is bound to about 13 different actions from different menus, but no matter how hard I try, it only lets me access one of them, which is the main UI menu. For example, I tried binding "bridge" to "spacebar," but no matter what when I hit spacebar, all I get is "selection lock toggle."

Also, any hotkey that uses "alt" simply takes me to the main menu bar (file, edit, tools, etc) which is pretty annoying.

Anybody have an idea of how I can use my hotkeys or what's going on here?

I'm using win xp and max 9 sp2

have you got "keyboard shortcut overide" selected? it can be found on the top row of buttons next to the snap toggle

this is on max 2009 so it might not be the same but im pretty sure it is

I just tried that out, but it makes no difference one way or the other.

zero hour is right the overide key should be all you need to toggle to get menu specific keyhots to function over menu ui keys.

probably sounds stupid but when you change the hot keys, are you remembering to save/write them and not just closing the window?

also having done some quick checks you have to be in the right section in which you assign the hot key as they is a difference between the edit poly and editable poly sets to use your Bridge hotkey as a reference.

Ha! It turns out it was what both of you suggested. I was editing the "edit poly" instead of "editable poly" and had to turn on the override.
