Industrial SciFi Structure à la Cris, adapted for C4d

This is my try at the first building unit from the industrial scifi structure tutorial that was included on the 3DWorldmag No. 100. I think this is originally from the Master Seminar 2, which doesn't seem to be available any more.

Anyway, I'm having a lot of fun doing this, so here are the first screenshots that show what I've done so far. Next up is the rounded corner bit, which looked not particularly easy in the video. Guess I'm putting that off until the weekend.

Thanks everyone for your comments, glad to hear you like it so far!

I've already started some tests for the corner part, which is a bit tricky. It's too bad that C4D does not have that extremely useful hinge feature. The Wedge Extrude plugin doesn't produce the desired results, but I came up with a workaround using EAS that I'm quite happy with. Just takes a little testing to get it right.

Have we just been invited to a coup? Sounds like fun, actually. With all those battle-hardened Max users in this forum, it ain't gonna be a picnic though. But then again, we all like a challenge now and then, don't we...

Looks great. Good scale and the unit can be duplicated even further to make a wall.

Once you start to duplicate check out the poly count, the attached image shows over a million polys. It was the reason I upgrade from 2 to 6GB of ram as I was unable to render the scene with the memory I had at the time without crashes.

if your wall is going to be static, use instances instead of duplicate it saves on poly count.

I agree, CINEMA NEEDS A HINGE TOOL ! ! I've put this request in at Maxon site for the R11 wish list.

a coup, sounds good to me.
