December Challenge - A Winter's Day

"The wintry west extends his blast,
And hail and rain does blaw;
Or the stormy north sends driving forth
The blinding sleet and snaw:
While, tumbling brown, the burn comes down,
And roars frae bank to brae;
And bird and beast in covert rest,
And pass the heartless day."
- Robert Burns
The Challenge - Model and render a wintery scene

Maybe its a pristine winter wilderness, perhaps a raging blizzard or even the day the central heating broke down at the north pole branch of Cryogenics Ltd. Whatever you do, I want to have to reach for my thermals when I look at your scene.

All normal competition rules apply.

Competition start - 09:00 24th November
Competition ends - 23:59 31st December

You will present all of your concept drawings you make (if you make them) as well as presenting wips for each logistical part of your modelling. You may not use any pre-fabricated parts for your end piece.

You MAY use post effects to make it look awesome should you wish.
ANY 3d Application may be used - If your entry includes characters, Poser pre-fabriacted models are not allowed although you may import a mesh into Poser and use it to pose your mesh should you wish.
Any renderer is allowed.

Your completed entry should be at LEAST 800x600 res and posted on the last page of your entry thread. Include the name of your entry and your name in the thread title. All entry threads should be posted in the main competition forum

Prizes

Couple of great prizes up for grabs in this comp. Top prize is the downloadable ED209 set! Wish I could get my hands on one of these myself!
We are also going to give away a beginners prize - the downloadable Dreadnought 2 set. To qualify for the beginners prize, you must have less than 1 years experience using 3D applications Add the word beginner to your entry thread to be considered. Judges reserve the right to migrate you to main competition if you are obviously not a beginner
Thanks to Cris for donating the prizes.

Haha, thats true. I have been meaning to ask you. I saw in a few posts a while back that you worked at blur.

I had shadowed there back in may/june with Derrin. When you guys were making the <edited 'cause i don't think it's public yet> video. Now, for the question. I dont know if i met you personally while i was there for my short visit, but i wanted to know. Did you find 3dp and practice with the tutorials chris has here or did you find it after you got uout job and just use it as a place to show WIP's and spread sarcastic comments?

i don't really show wips here, i just spread sarcastic comments i've known cris since before he started 3d-palace and created some of the first xsi tutorials hosted on here.
i dunno if i met you or not, given that that was a while ago. so was this ross or butler?
back then i sat sort of over by the production wall with the rockfish concept art on it. i think i had sort of a curly mop of hair and a load of freckles (still have the freckles, hair is now much shorter). i dunno that you would have met me, as i wasn't working on that project, not much to rig.

and the lack of wips is 'cause i'm a poser (not the program) artist these days. i don't have the spirit to work on anything outside of work. lame, i know.

although, i have to say, this topic sounds vaguely interesting. chances of me completing anything by the end date are low, i think, though considering how i'll be computerless for a good three weeks of this contest.

so tell me, patrick, were you there to see darren's awesome quake skills?
