Hey man, really if I were doing that and its just a still, Im gonna make sure my pivots are in the right spot and just parent the lower arm to the upper arm... easy in this case is the best way to go. Besides, you want the time to spend doing everything else. You only need a quick solution to pose your character.

If and when you decide to do something more with it, then you could look into more complex means of moving her/it around.

Think I'm going to stick to the ball-cup joints I have in the last update, maybe round them a little. I can't be arsed right now with getting the shape perfectly. I still need to learn modeling them like in the image. Besides, I have an acute lack of motivation that I need to regain

After an hour or more of testing and hating, this is the best knee I came up with so far. Which one do you like best? The previous one, or the new one. I'm open for critiques.

The left one is more designer while the left is nice and simple. If you can tweak that left one so that it doesn't look a little messed up, cuz right now it seems like something is wrong with the polygonal mesh, I'd say go with that. But then again, simple is nice and I don't think you're going for some complex enormity.

I know it looks almost like a shapeless blob, that's one of the reason's I asked. I'm still trying to tweak the hell out of it (good that I'm going to use the same setup fpr the arm as well)

I think your doing ok as simple will work really well with the overall look of the model. If your struggling for ideas on the preg robot, why not work on the rest of the scene for now, I think when you've done that, then you'll get more of an idea what you want.

Wasn't in the mood for trying to fix the knees, so I started the environment. That inner wall of the hospital/maternity building. that's just 10 mins in. The girder is actually an energy supply. It stops the robots to break free of the building in the unlikely case they develop an intelligence. The upper shelf-like things are actually the light covers. Over the window there's going to be a warning sticker saying something like: "Warning. Do not break glass. Harmful radiations." Still thinking of that.
