Call for Help

Okay guys after spending a good 4 hours trying to get the texture right for the snow I thought I would give a shout for help.

I am ill versed on texturing so please forgive me.

I am trying to create a texture that will have a mixture of green for the braches and raise snow on the branches ( I would assume that I need a gradient/ bump map for the snow). The problem that I keep running into it the colors get belnded together instead of being seperate. I was folowing a tutorial for the snow texture but it wasn't working out.

What would be the best way to accomplish this. Should I UVWmap this thing and apply some sort of map and bump map? Would that approach work better? All the trees are the same just resized and stretched.

Please let me know. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Texture the tree, then make the snow out of geometry. Then you can just make a procedural texture for the snow to avoid any unwrapping.

Should be more rounded imo, and not so uniform around each tier.

Aim for something like this:

Bunch of planes with a leavey texture, with an alpha map to shape the bottom. Clumps of snow added geometry.

Thats right, - there is still time to get an entry together and a great prize for the best entry, So there is no reason not to give it a go

Sorry Mallwine, only just saw your query there when I was reading through the entry threads again (It was a question, right ?)

You can put yourself f orward for best beginner prize if you have less than a yeas experience of 3D apps (or there abouts). If you only break out your 3D apps occasionaly then this might be a little longer. Its hard to quantify, but when youre ready to move on you will know

If you want to be considered, you have to specifically say so. Just let me know.

Matt

I would say I qualify as a beginner I would say I have been playing with the app for just about 2 years now but not consistently. Either way I am just glad to give this whole competition a go!
