| | | cartooney winter's day
Just thought that I would take a crack in this competition. Not sure as I would be considered a beginner or not.
Well this is a kinda catrooney winter scene. Not sure what else I am going to put into this scene. Mostly just learning how to texture things how I want.
I can't seem to get the tree texture quite right, and I have never really played with particles before so we will see what I can come up with. |

Looked better the first time... more old tv look, not so bright, kinda like a rudolph the reindeer special. Besides, adding the lights you did might have brought the look of the snow falling a bit better but you made your shadows look bright and green, instead of like shadows... which usually don't emit light... unless theyre a ghost, in which case freaks me out.

I Agree with Kris. Although the snow on the trees look great, as well as the snow in this one, but the shadows throw it off, for me at least.

I think you should vary your snow flakes a bit too, perhaps make them look a bit more like snowflakes and less like stars.Perhaps try to define the snow on the trees a little more clearly, the white and green mixing kind of washes bit out. If its cartoony keep it nice and bold.

You could also find some snow flake pics and make an opacity map out of them and apply it to small planes. Having a few a little larger as they're coming past the camera would be a nice touch.

it's funny that you mention these things. I had just created an opacity map for the snow flakes and changed things up a bit, when all of a sudden, everything goes black. of course I panic a little when I hear my 18 months old son giggling from unde the desk. He found the GFI interupt with a button, he likes pushing buttons. needless to say I kinda lost heart, so I stopped working on it yesterday. I will resume when I get off work today.
hmmm gotta protect the button....
