Hue and DE-Saturation - June Entry

For 16.7 million years now the folk of Chromati City have enjoyed peace and happiness in full colour.

Today the locals sit glued to their tv`s as news of a devastating virus is about to hit not only the town but engulf the whole of planet of Colorimetrian.

All colour will be lost forever.

Been thinking up ideas for a few days now and everything always ended up with me thinking of something Cartoony, bright and colourful. Plenty of laughs coming up with the names and ideas with my youngest.

As i have no idea whatsoever of what i am actually doing, but really want to enter this competition, i thought, sod it. Do it!
I really have no clue where this is going but it will be my first ever bit of modelling without a tutorial (eek!!)

In my mind there will be a couple, maybe more of the buildings and a few smaller items like rocks, stones and fences placed and of course some hilly ground itself.

Anyways, as you may or may not have guessed i intend to make my first image extremely colourful and my second image desaturated. I think, or i hope that the second shot will need to be atmospheric and `darker` to sell what i have in my mind.

Thoughts on my madness appreciated. Plus, is this too basic an idea? even though its taken me a while just to get the modelling you see done. (Thanks for the 6 weeks)

Thanks mattmattoid. Appreciate the feedback. Make all this worthwhile.

Added another home now. Not sure whether to add all the small things to the houses, like drainpipes, ornaments etc now or at the end.

Im definately getting a little more confident now as you can probably tell from the first house through to the latest. I`ll most likely redesign the first one a little. Not sure yet.

Concerned how to do the roofs. Make some tiles or just apply some texture. Surely making loads of tiles would make the poly count massive.

My biggest fear at the moment is overkill. Too much detail which i think will detract from a Cartoony World. Also making every window slightly different to the last is more time consuming than i thought then again i am getting faster.

Crits always welcome.

I like it so far

The only thing that I notice when I look at the latest pic, is on the house all to the right, right in the middle of the roof, there appears to be a tear there. Not sure it might just be the lighting as well. Otherwise though it looks nice to me, looking forward to seeing the rest of this.

One of those occasions where as soon as i posted the image it jumped off the screen. Been tweaking verts now for so long im sure they will crop up in my sleep tonight. Im sure i wont be the first here though to do that

All fixed now though and will continue tomorrow at some point.

Comments appreciated.

I really like the style of the houses, specifically the inward curve in the middle and the stairs. I think if you take the peaks of the roof corners and curve them up a bit, that would look nice and go along with the cartoon look.

Just a couple more buildings to come before building the scenery and scene itself.

Not really sure if i like the last house. I did some spline modelling for the strats but i think they are way too thin. Also the porch roof/canopy just looks a bit odd.

Lots of tweaking still to do but overall quite happy with the way its coming together. Poly count is only 10,426 which i think is good even though its pretty basic stuff.
