Traction engine complete with Fred Dibnah

Not really finished yet. It needs a setting and it's all rigged to animate but I'll probably never get round to it.

That's great , really nice piece of work.
Semi-crit : the tyres look too thick and did they actually have treads like that? (From memory) didn't they have thin, almost solid tyres? I am not a traction engine fanboy.

They did have those thick tyres only they didn't have treads on them. BTW, It looks really cool, has a fair-like atmosphere to it.

Looks really, really good Spludge.

Rainycat: Yes they did have tyres that thick. That was all down to the job that the machine was specified for.

InProgress: They did have treads on the wheels. Again dependant of the job at hand. Road-rollers had steel wheels and steel treads at a 45 degree offset to the wheels themselves. Latter ones all had treaded tyres due to roads changing from cobblestones to early tarmac sufaces.

This little baby was certainly a showpiece, probably seen towing a steam powered pipe organs for fairgrounds.

My dad used to drag my arse around Thursford Traction Engine Museum, several times as a kid, (his grandfather used to work for Mamod, and use to build/sevice things like this).

Only thing that spoils this piece for me is the picture compression has ruined the edges a little

Thanks Fellas. Ragupasta you know your stuff. Looks like those museum visits paid off!
This is done from a plastic kit (Bandai) measured with vernier calipers but I might thin them down a bit.
They do look a bit thinner on the real engine which is outside the Bandai Museum in Japan.
