That's exactly the sort of effect that I was trying to do in my Crux shot, but I failed, miserably.

Hi guys, thanks for the comments On the rendering - it was mainly direct lights, and many of them. I still used one very cheap final gather pass, but it served mainly to smooth things out. Geometry was rendered with mental ray, effects - with the scanliner. Motion blur was applied in Fusion during post.

Protoss was modeled/textured by a friend for a workshop we both lectured at. I rigged and shaded it it, and we had the complete asset. So when I needed an FX scene, I decided to use that asset instead of my generic stuntman
