The Obelisk - 'Lectric Eye Version

Hi all, I've finished my first 3D Palace DVD -The Obelisk- and thought I'd upload a couple of renders. I'm also halfway through rendering a short animated version which will be on my site soon. Towards the end of the modelling process I came up with an idea for a new kind of power source to go on the top instead of the green crystal, and incorporated it myself. The amazing 3D Palace teaching style definitely encouraged me to do this

I also changed the green glowing material to blue, to distance it a bit from the original Necron concept. This is the first time I've used the mental ray daylight system, so I'm not quite sure if I've created the horizon in the best way... Feedback would be great!

I'm going to have a short break from modelling and do some work from a book on character animation I've got, then I'll probably try out one of the free smaller 3D Palace tutorials before I go back to uni.

Yep, it's based on the Necron Monolith. Cris redesigned it for the Obelisk tutorial, and with my version I changed the door and the top part of the structure with the power source.
