help with obj car file

i dont know anything about obj files, any help would be helpful. but is there a way to import the file with all the shaders already mapped onto the car. because when i import it in, i get the car as a nuetral gray color, the shaders that where created with the file is there to but theyre also a nuetral grey color. what i want to know is, is there a way for me to import the car with all its texture already mapped on.

Maya seems to have issues when it comes to importing MTL information. Shaders are created but with none of the meaningful information. There may be a resolution to this elsewhere, be it in the form of a script/plugin, but apart from that, your best option is to use some external (freeware) software that enables you to export to a more Maya friendly format. If that fails, you'll have to do it manually.

I am no Maya user, but in MAX when you import a file like that and the textures go grey, it normally means they were created with a function that you might not have on yours.

As an example I am a Mental Ray user, so if I was to import something that was created with Vray materials it would just go to its default Grey colour.

Hope this helps, like I said thats for MAX but would make sense to me that they are similar in that respect.

biro boy is right, cause from what i know you can export obj with materials, but if the obj file you had was not exported with the materials then you are going to have re apply the textures or create new ones. and also depending on what materials were used it will not translate properly. For example if the material used were vray and you exported them to maya it will not work.
