major MAYA problem!!

my scene has been destroyed! all of my layers are gone. the hypershade editor is completely empty, my models have no shaders now. many of the objects in the scene are gone, in some cases only parts of grouped objects are here. the missing objects still show up in the outliner but i cannot see them. i have been saving incrementally and have almost 30 files for this scene. ALL have the same problem. i even have all these files saved on an external hardrive and a flash drive as well as my PC, when i bring those versions in, same problem. everything is ****ed. what the hell happened?

I don't know Maya, but it sounds like a corrupt program.

Try passing the file to someone else and see if it loads on their setup.

If the data was stored elsewhere, it should be ok.

If they show up in the outliner then it sounds like a display problem.

I agree with sandmanninja, see if it will open on any one elses work station.

If you wish you can send me the file and I will have a look at it when I get home later tonight.

Have you tried selecting them in the outline and trying to move them or scale them, does the gizmo show up and if so is it in the correct location.

try deleting your prefs file.
ducuments>maya>(version number) lotacte your prefs file and delete, sadly your preferences will be deleted like custom tab and custom settings but it fix's most maya issues with me.
if all eles fails uninstall maya and re-install

and if ya have to uninstall Maya (or any program), do the following before re-installing:

* del temps
* scan for spyware/trojans/viruses
* do a quick scandisk (not the thorough - but ya can if you have time)
* DEFRAG
* reboot

then reinstall

The defrag will tighten up any slack space on your drive, and make the install nice and tight

i couldn't get it back, even after reinstalling. but after some searching, i did find an older file that was ok. i just had to redo alot of things. i think somehow those files got corrupt. none of my old projects had problems, just this one.
