Thats the hole idea of the learning edition, to make sure the models you make are for learning purposes only. If you could export them as obj or load them into maya fully it would be contradicting the whole point of the learning edition as then you could do what ever you wanted with those models.

Like make them in maya export them to a free app, or cheaper app then go look what I made in (insert free/cheap app here)

Very bad in their case.

I dont see what the big deal is, its common sense. At the end of the day they are a business that wants your business, if everything was that simple, how can they make money?

I can see it as being a ball ache for peeps who only have PLE, but like all businesses they want the green (money wise not recreational.... Or maybe both for some people )

You know you could try the XSI modtool. There is one annoying restriction, though - you can only export a model in the .obj format of 64,000 triangles or less.

Yup, that's right - a free learning edition from a big company that works in a mod pipeline. No watermarks in the viewport whatever the shading mode.

'XSI Mod Tool Version Limitations

Most of the features and functionality of the commercial version of SOFTIMAGE|XSI 6 are enabled in Mod Tool, without the hassle of licensing. Data from all sources can be brought into the XSI Mod Tool, including data from the commercial version of SOFTIMAGE|XSI. Mod Tool is for non-commercial use only.

Before installing Mod Tool, please be aware of the following limitations:

Mod Tool supports only DXFX and CGFX material types. Mental ray materials are not supported.

Mod Tool supports only polygonal mesh primitives.

Exported geometry is limited to 64000 triangles.

The mental ray renderer is used only for Rendermap and Ultimapper. All other mental ray rendering is disabled.

Maximum resolution for Ultimapper maps is 512x512.
Images output using the hardware renderer are limited to a maximum resolution of 512x512.'

Not too bad.

I think its because the content wouldn't have been created under a commercial licence so couldn't be used in any commerical projects, even if you attain one at a later date.as you didn't have one at the time of creation
