I was in the lab at school today and tried to load a model I'd made in the Learning Edition of Maya into the full edition and I got a popup that says files from the Learning Edition can't be loaded into the full Maya. Is there any way around this? I couldn't believe I couldn't load my file. That was one of the most stupid things I've ever seen.
I guess I just need to start saving money and order Maya from one of those sites that offer software at a discount for students.

That would be incredibly stupid of AutoDesk's behalf - what's the point of learning with the PLE and then bringing the old stuff over?
Guess they figure anything made in the PLE is practise or something

BK... if you do get so far as to get a copy. I know my University I can get a permanent liscence of Maya or Max for $400 each. Still steep for me, but I guess semi-Legal; and better than the full Retail price.

I understand the point of this restriction even if it's kind of annoying. If there was no restriction everybody would buy 1 full version of Maya to render in/ make stuff not available in PLE and the rest would use the PLE edition to model in. With this restriction they prevent the work to be done on a free version and moved to complete version.
Even though it is annoying for the users using the PLE and upgrading, that would be sooo fun...

With Houdini if you upgrade from Apprentice to master, you get a 1 time deal, where you send your work in on a cd/.rar file, and Side Effects will convert it to a genuine Master file, but this is a 1 time only.

You can not export when you have the learning edition.
