creating water reflection and penitration

how do i go about creating a scene with water that has sunlight reflection on the water surface and sunlight penitration onthe pool surface. just like looking at the bottom of a swimming pools. i already plan on modeling a pool and water surface. i just need the shading technque

For the light on the bottom of the pool, you need to look into caustics, this can be faked quite nicely by applying a ripple image to the light intensity, can sometimes work out nicely.

There are several water material in maya if I remember correclty give them a look.

Also go into the visor, and look at some of the water scenes and elements from in there, you will get a good idea of how they did it.

www.mymentalray.com...if i remember it correctly one of the threads inside the maya forum in this has a beautiful swimming pool . and also if you are using maya 2008 then the mia material ccan be configured to the desired effect and the same is given under the architectural materail under the maya documentation.
