Hey all I came across this interesting script/plugin the other day. Its a bit of a strange way to install but I highly recomend you give it a try.
It comes with several plugins, havent really tried most of them, but the animation layers one is very cool.
It allows you do have an extra layer manager for animations, cant really explain it any better than that lol.

You have to downlaod the whole libary to access it, also here is a tutorial for it so you can know how to use it, and the workflow involded.
As the tutorial states you will need to activate browser setup assistant which is located in the help menu and allows the internet to access maya, which is pretty darn cool, the test page is rather fun controling maya from ie.
