not bad the darker studio looks much better, the thing about studio renders is that one lighting solution may not work properly at all angles, so the general rule that i use is choose a particular camera angle you want and work your lighting around that. To further help you can you post your light and render settings?

i might continue working on the darker light setup, as it seems more popular, could you please tell me what actually causes smudges to appear on renders, so i hopefully could then solve the problem myself whenever i incur it?

cheers

well that could be a number of things, could the light being used, or shadows (esp depthmap) . if you are using finalgather could be that you do not have enough samples. One solution is to delete the light set up you have and rebuild it again and see if the problem occurs. Also post a screen shot of your light settings and render globals

i have taken a screenshot of both my lighting setup inside the dark lit scene (because i found i had smudges on the renders, but only from certain angles) i have also added a screenshot of my render globals.
