Question Help on smooth

Hi everyone,

I was using the hotkeys 1, 2 and 3 from the keyboard to make the car I'm modeling smoother but when I've tried to render the car well it's not smooth like on the program... any clues?

It shouldnt be that complicated but I'm a noob in maya so I still dont know too much about the program!

Thanks in advance!

Hello there. They keys 1, 2 and 3 are used for previewing your smooth mesh. It won't render out as a smooth object. for that you will have to either use 2 iterations of smooth, or go to modify > convert > smooth mesh preview to object (or something similar).

After I pressed 3 and clicked on modify -> convert -> smooth mesh preview to polygons it worked!

Thanks a lot! :-)

dont save!!
always undo it after you do the render and save before you convert and afterwards. or make a copy of the model. you wont be able to get the low polygon model back if you do save

yeah, you may save. To bring back the low poly model go into the channel editor and at the smooth input type in the iteration box 0 (instead of 1)

Nooo thats my secret tip!!! It makes it appear as if I know what im talking about.

If your experienced with maya, you could set up a shelf button that contains a simple little mel script that will convert the object to a smoothed one, render it and then convert it back so you can carry on working on it as usual.
