maya settings getting carried over with the file

Hey guys, just something thats happening at work, and i'd like to know how to stop it. At work we use maya 6.5, I have maya set up so i can select the faces without having to select that stupid little square in the middle of each face. Also I have it set up so that all the edges are the same thickness on the wireframe. Now there are a few people whom i work with who like to see the border edges nice and thick and who like to select the faces based upon selecing those little squares.

Now the problem arrises when one of these people edit or create a file (it dosnt matter) when I then go in to edit that file I see all the border edges as fat edges, and I can see the little squares in the middle of the faces, however, I can still select the faces the way I normally do. I cant actually work out how to view these files the way i view all the other files i work with, aka without the border edges being thick, and without the little squares in the faces

Is there a way to have my preferences be locked into my computer so that no matter how they have their view settings set up that I will still be able to view it normally?

any help would be greatly apprecitaed

(oh and its no use telling me to get a newer version of maya, long story, not an option)

Hello again eagle4. For younglions sake, I'll paste my response to the identical thread you created on another forum, so he knows exactly why it's happening.

You can apply new display options to all the objects in your scene by changing Objects affected to All in the options window (Display -> Polygons -> Custom Polygon Display) and applying the preferences you prefer.

I'm not sure there is, but you could easily write a MEL script to automate the process above so you can just click a button on the shelf, which in this case involves nothing more than a single polyOptions command. The Maya documentation will tell you all you need to know.
