I'm sorry I didn't read all the posts before this, but concerning the demoreel vs. CD-folio vs. tangible copies of work I don't think there's any one way to go.

Every recruiter I've heard of has said something a bit different about presentation. Some say don't go DVD, just go VHS. Some say don't go reel, some do. etc etc
The important thing is that no matter what it is it needs to be in his/her face. Just show your better work right there so that they can see it without having to rummage through a bunch of other stuff. On a DVD case, on the CD label, right there ontop of the CV and all. No matter if you go DVD, VHS, CD, reel, no reel, you'll never please every recruiter is what it seems like to me.

So personally, I'd say for a game job go CD/DVD folio, don't worry too much about the reel, and send physical copies of your work too. I don't have a job in the industry, of course, so I don't know how much my word counts.

as far as a portfolio, I don't think its necessary to clearly spell out that you are specialized in only characters or only enviros. - a reel is different. Reels should be specific to the job you want to snag, but portfolios are a bit more open - not that you should put anything but your best work in it, but you know what I mean. Just my opinion though, I don't have any practical experience except in freelance.

Anyway, you've gotten a lot better than when I last saw your stuff. It's really looking good, man. Keep it up

Thanks again for the great help

I need a place for those 100 says, if that is character, level design or something ells within the artist side im happy! Since you can learn so much within a company like guerrillia. I do not mind getting coffee all day long if i just may hang around

What i could do is put some cool stories on the CD. Stories about the project that my friend and I are working on. That may be quite interresting.

But i think that since i do not have a large portfolio and i surely will include those papers i will not include a CD this time. Everything that will be on the CD will be on a paper, so they have everything twice. It is also quite a dissapointment if you put that CD in and you see the same stuff that i printed and nothing more...

The CD is something i could realy use next time. Since i am glued to my chair here i realy learn and produce alot these days, my portfolio will grow quite fast and next time i do not have this damn time limmed and can make a real great CD that sparkless.

If i put those papers in a good order under the aplication letter. When they open the envelope and pick off the letter they see this postfolio booming into there face. This should also work quite well.

Oke im going to work out those things, hopefully it becomes something
And i will keep updating this trough out the day or anytime i finished something great.

Thanks for the great information guys.

Digital Media should be presented in digital format. It can look good printed out but it just isnt the same a rotation of a model.
Not including a cd will dramatically reduce you chances of getting the job. For starters it is pretty standard to include a cd of your work. If you dont include one you run the risk of
1. looking unprofessional and unprepared.
2. The guy opening your envelope and going " This guy couldn't even be arsed doing a cd." Bin
3. Opening your envelope seeing a stack of paper and just going bollocks I'm not reading through all that. Given, some of it is images but they may not even look through a massive stack of paper.
also I have been told don't include the same model more than once as if they want to see it again they just rewind the video and look from the desired angle. Paper media also takes this option away as they can only look at set angles you have provided.

so in short a nice shiny cd with a cool case catches the eye far more than a stack of paper. These things go through other hands before they get to the guy who hires and fires , and these guys have to weed through hundreds of aplications so if it doesnt stand out you will be lucky if they even look at it.

Hey Xadeko,

Edge is right. Just a small thing......the interesting story you mentioned, about you and your friend, just add a small piece to the hobby section of a digital resume.
To be honest, employers want to see your skills in the given area, they dont really care so much about what you like to do with your friend, they want to know if you are going to be a company asset, or not. If the latter my friend, then you have no chance.

If you want to add some small inserts like Jackobeast said, thats fine, just make sure it is high quality paper/printing, and keep it as a overview, dont wander off into story land, these people rarley have a lot of time so, keep it sweet.

One more thing, on the demo reel, make sure it goes straigt into the action, and stay there, dont bore them

Anyway good luck buddy!!
