Website and ShowReel

Ok, now ive been trying to get together a website and Showreel so i can move forward in my career, ive been at my current place of employment for too long, and ive learnt as much as i can here.

So i put together a website and now, had to quickly put together a Showreel at the request of a potential employer.

here it is:

my website is nikp3d.com

It is going to be updated tonight with the WIP section removed and a Showreel section in its place so it will be available for download.

I think its ok, im aiming for a job in the 3d Visualisation side of things for a few years so i can focus on lighting and rendering for a while

Any comments are greatly welcomed, positive, or negative

recommend not having A: music with words B: profanity
doesn't ring professional.

You have some nice work in there, but I agree with Zerflag, I ended up turning the sound off after 1 minute.

hey mate, just having a look at your website, when I was making my website when I was looking for a job I had to learn how many little things that we do that detract from the professionalism of my work.

Firstly the title of your webpage is 'index.gif' Now you want to put a <title> </title> tag in the headder of your page. This will give a better name to your website and it will look more professional.

The words on your main page are REALLY big, Now I have a big monitor so I can see all of it, but there is a chance that your prospective employer dosnt have such a large monitor, this means he/she will have to scroll to see the whole of your first page, I recomend setting your screen resolution really small and seeing how your webpage looks to you, you want to make it as easy as possible for an employer to see just how good you are.

Your front page is also very unintersting, Can I sugest putting your best work on your front page. You're an artist after all, try to put some effort into making it look more cool, I am guessing you're going for a more minimalist look, which I totally understand (and personally prefer) but what you have dosnt really work, remember this first page is your first impression to a perspective employer, first impressions are more important than you can imagine, if after looking at the opening page do you think the employer is actively wanting to find out what kind of work you can do? you want him thinking that.

You said you're wanting to do 3D visulisation, however on your website you have animations and 'bits and pieces' you need to really focus. You're 3D vis stuff is really good, however there really isnt any focus that i am getting from looking at your website, I am left thinking do you want to do animations, 3D vis, any 3D? you dont want your employer thinking these things.

you've got the makings of a great portfolio website, but with some minor tweaks you can make it much more professional, direct and just more enjoyable. keep up the great work mate, good to see another Aussie on this site

I really like the showreel but try changing the music. Im making my showreel at the moment and im using tracks by air, boards of canada and portishead etc. Mostly electronic music works really well. I plan on using portishead - we carry on as its good track for a showreel. I also feel it depends on how you shoot your showreel on the type of track you will give it.

Heres a link to the portishead track I was on about:

That music is terrible for showing a reel with. Also, in my opinion, your motion graphics are your strong point from what the reel was showing me.

I was talking about the music he has currently. It wasn't in regard to your post.
