Texturing/Basic Photoshop & Rendering in layers - Mentor needed

If anyone could help me in any of the areas mentioned in the title I would be greatly appreciative.

Texturing/Photoshop - I would like to be able to create simple yet effective textures of various materials such as worn rusty metals, and metals with flaking paint as well as plastics and other materials.

Rendering Layers/Photoshop composition - Well I havent really a clue about any of this so if anyone could teach me a few basics that would be awesome. (MAYA user).
