MAX: Car Suspension help please:)

Hi,

I am currently in the middle of animating a short based on the v8 supercar race series from Australia and New Zealand, i have a shot from under the car looking at the brake disc and suspension and am having a little trouble with my rigging.

I was hoping there was someone out there who could help me out a little with this as I have a deadline looming and am having little luck getting a successful rig working.

Thank You

Kane

I can't view your file since I use an earlier version of max. However, if all that needs to be rigged is the suspension then i would think that an orientation constraint at the axle joint for the shock and a simple FFD for the spring would be good enough for just about any 4-wheel independent suspension systems.

It's usually the "old truck" single angle suspensions that cause people trouble, and you have to start getting into maxscripting a triangular configuration for each attachment point and to do the math on how much the thing should move up<>down.

If it helps, there is a masterclass from one of the old siggraph lectures recorded by Autodesk (discreet) that is still sold under the name "Mechanical Rigging Masterclass" or something. You might want to check it out, or post some screengrabs so I can at least see what you're dealing with.
