Thumbs up [Max 2008] UI/Viewport Help Needed

Hi guys- this is a pretty noobish question from me but it needs asking as its driving me crazy!

Have used Max 7 for a fair while now, and have recently upgraded to using Max 2008- its definitely an improvement but am finding it to have some annoying features. Is there any way get the UI to react like Max 7 in some respects?

Some example of some of the things annoying me; If I create a box, convert it to editable poly and delete a face im presented with a 'black' face... rather than the see-through/wirey face I would get in Max 7. I know to correct this I could turn on "backface cull" in the objects properties- but I need to continually do this for every object I create- is there anyway to turn this on permanently as in Max 7??

Also Ive changed the colour of objects to be grey on creation rather than random colours- the annoying thing is that being grey I cant easily define the objects wireframe from the grid/viewport background (maybe im just colourblind?!)- is it possible to create grey objects with black edges as a default??

Not major problems- just things slowling my workflow slightly and things I could easily change in Max 7 (maybe Im not looking in the rights places :P)

In effect I'm asking if its possible to have a look similar to Max 7 with the functionality of Max 2008, any help appreciated

if you want max to start with certain settings, then setup max as you like it and save the file as maxstart.max in the scene folder of max.

Try that

The maxstart.max solution worked for that problem- also whilst looking I found a setting called "Turn On Backface Cull On Object Creation" or words to that effect which I hadnt found before!

Just now the problem of the objects not appearing as I want them...

Im after a cross between wireframe and hidden line in the top/left/front viewports - but everytime I update an object (using either the colour picker or material editor) it updates in all viewports- is it not possible to have top/front/side as just grey and black- regardless of what I do to the objects colour in perspective?

Just confuses me that I cant seem to set it up.

Thanks again though to sandmanninja for the maxstart.max tip
