3d-Palace Changes - 3D-Palace Community Forums

Ok, lets get things straight first off. I made the changes and Im happy with them - its this look or nothin. There will be some minor changes to the parts that need polish however I have spent several days tinkering quietly and taking advice on this look and feel and I am very pleased with it.

On the left you will see I have expanded out the navigation system to make forums easier to find - theres a new IRC system that logs you in using your 3d-palace username to the 3d-palace IRC channel, theres a new banner system up top that will keep you informed of our new products and theres quite a lot of new behind the scenes engine tweaks that will make your 3d-palace experience faster.

I spent a lot of time with my head down working hard on tutorials only to look up and see that things are changing in the online education world. 3D-Palace is the #1 site for mature 3d learning in a great environment and I am going to see to it, personally, that we stay that way. You can help... you can sponsor us, you can buy 3d-palace products, you can tell people why you like 3d-palace and you can tell us why you don't like 3d-palace however remember that this is your community, if you want it to grow you need to be proactive.

hey mate, i really like the new look, one slight sugestion, the blue headder you have is WAY too awesome, perhaps you could introduce a bit of that blue somewhere else, just slight touches of blue would really help tie that banner in and make the whole thing look even more awesome.

I think I like it more than the old one.

Just a few things that spring to mind:

- I still can't 'middle mouse click'-browse the menus on the left. In Firefox middle mouse click opens up the selected link in a new tab. It's by far the most convinient way of surfing the web and I use it always.

Are the menus done with javascript or something?

- While writing this now I realized that a bit more contrast between this text and the background would be good. Maybe increase the brigthness of the text one notch?

- The site is maybe one notch too dark overall for my taste.

- The background being one solid color is maybe a bit tame?

- Some areas have white text on a close to black background. Like the "REPLY TO THREAD", menu headers, FAQ, User CP etc. on the top. Such a high contrast sting my eyes a little.

- The smileys need an update.

- With the amount of infomation in the left toolbar maybe make stuff like the video tutorials and forums list rollout/drop down menus?

These are just some friendly suggestions. Overall it's alot better than the old one, me thinks.

I like the new look alot, always a fan of dark colours.

Have you maybe considered grouping some of the older tutorial sections together, like the wings 3d, terragen and combustion, maybe some others in an others section so they dont take up so much room.

Is there anyway to seperate the forum lists, i think one long list is a little too much, maybe add some seperators if possible.

I really like the look of the site overall, you did a great job.

Looking good, not agressive on the eyes so its easy to read large parts of text.
I like the "New posts" button on the top, although it might always have been there and i never noticed it.
As for max i haven't started it up for a while now, maybe its time to start messing with it again. I'm looking forward to the master set with Rodimus, that's what you get when growing up with transformers.
I really like the overal look of the site, great work.
