Lighthead leaves a faint aroma of banana
Seagate used to be great, used them for years but now I don't rate them.
The caviar blacks are good as mentioned -

Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (WD1001FALS) [WD1001FALS] Internal Hard Drives SATA-II 1TB & Over

Also check the warranty on your dodgy drive as you usually get a few years.

P.S. Stay away from 750GB and 1.5TB drives as they are more unstable and prone to failure for some reason (shared with me by our techie from my previous workplace).

Maxtor is owned by Seagate since a few years ago so I'd cut them from your selection too.
The irony of that is Seagate is now being paraded as the premium brand and Maxtor the generic.

That small drive I have for texture storage is one of the first drives I ever owned (IDE/non-SATA). Thats a Maxtor drive. Never had any issues with that. I only changed it for more storage.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, and the linky lighthead. Just nicely in price range too.
