Wip Short Sword

This is the first model on my own no tutorials. I need some help though and know i came to the right place.
1) I need help making a vray gold material.
2) I need help making a vray metal material sword-like not some shiny junk. Because whenever i render it always ends up black.
3) Thanks!

Any crits are welcome.

This is an image with ref picture. This is before a little detail was added and minor tweaks.

I'd unwrap it. It's a straight-forward model and a proper unwrap would do it justice.

there are many, try google

but expecially look at this one:

http://www.game-artist.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2329

and this one:

[MAX] UV unwarp

also alot of the free tutorials on this site alone involve unwrapping

goodluck, i hope i could help.

Looks true to the concept, one thing, the blade is kind of going all smoothy into the handle. They don't cast these things, the handle is seperate from the blade and the blade is put in, so it needs a hard crease there.

it sound wierd but use blender for UVW mapping. If you dont have the pelt tool, Blender allows you to create the seams youd like then it automatically unwraps your model with even and proportional uv's. (Although choosing where to have seam lines can be tricky) Altough the pelt tool does exactly the same, ive found it pulls the uv's a little too much, and you have to mess around with the relax dialogue to get it even.

tga preferably, although bmp also works fine. I find tga better as it lets you save layers.
