| | | lovingsaskia's 3D doodle dump
This is just an area where I can just dump all of my 3d doodles as I try out different modeling things. Some of the things may end up being used in later full models, many probably won't, more like concepting in 3d.
Here's something I've been playing with for a few hours today, a claw for a mech, the actual claws at the front are very rough at the moment, but the idea is they will connect to 2 pistons, top and bottom, with hoses going into the rear of the box area

Still working on the concept, didn't like the claws so, changing the design somewhat. I'm working towards a motor kind of design with a disk at the front that rotates for wrist movement, the connections are for hydraulic hoses that will connect to the disk and go through the motor to connect at the back via a junction box slewn underneath. The connections shown on the junction box are 2 electical cable glands for main power and control and 2 instantanious hydraulic hose connections to supply hydraulics to the claws.

Started on the claws, looking at it I'd need to do some big adjustments to get decent size pistons in there, I'll work on those once I've finished on the claws and adjust my proportions from there.

claw looks much better now.
fix that autosmooth though.

1st pistons in place, gotta build the connections to the end of the claws and then work out a way for pistons onto the disk, which is going to have to change.
Not fussed with smoothing on this, concepting, just in 3d. Yeah I know I should really draw it.

looking much more realistic now. in terms of mechanics, but how could it grip something with pistons inside the claw, perhaps try to side mount them?

Yeah see what you mean, was talking bout it in work this morning from an engineering point of view and gone for pistons on the top, just basic and when I go about moving this to proper modeling I'll be making it look much more interesting. However with exception of the pistons connecting to the disc the claw is rigged (top 2 anyhow, bottom just needs the same) and the system would work.
I even sat down and drew it out to see 1st :/

Realised that in theory I don't need pistons to connect to the disk, the central joint could in theory be motor driven so claw concept is complete (there are errors but at this stage not bothered, I'll be rebuilding it all later anyhow) going to move back now and redesign the motor concept, plus there is going to be some sort of weapon slung underneath true mech style.

Start of hydraulic hose fun.

Not much done tonight, spent half of it playing dead space. Most of the pistons in place.
