Just another quick update to show how the ankle pistons get rigged. Added some skulls and more rivets as well. The modeling of this part of the piece is 80% done. After I finish adding some banners and rivets on the toes and make the back toe pretty, I will start on the lower thigh.

Looking good PC.

I have two questions....

Could you post a detail of the middle toe, possible with the front digit pulled straight out from the second digit, just curious how you modeled that little piece.

I'm assuning you modeled the eagle banners on the upper part of the pistons as extruded splines, but just curious about how you got them to wrap like that.

Thanks and keep the updates coming.

wow, the detail is really awesome. I like the skulls, did you use a shapemerge and extrude for that, or some other method?

Daermon, you'll find the detail image attached and with a wireframe. There's nothing particularly amazing about how that part was modeled although I cheated and used boolean on the curved part of the toe tip. But since there wasn't a lot of complicated mesh it came out real clean with no surgery required. There is an exploded diagram in pdf format at the forge world website downloads area.

Yeah, the eagles (and skulls) are made from extruded splines. I basically just traced an image from somewhere and extruded it out.

The trick to getting the eagle to wrap without a lot of deforming is to make cuts in the mesh with a slice plane along the axis around which the bend modifier will go. Then just move the bend center gizmo to be coaxial with the cylinder the eagle will be attached to. Though I did have to fiddle with the bend modifier a little to get it to stick but it wasn't that tough.

DrunkenMaster, the skulls had similar cuts made with the slice plane like the eagle, the main difference from the eagle was I used FFD 4x4 modifier control points to get the curvy relief in the face.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Speaking of Warhammer, I took chris' advice (Sentinel vid) and bought a Tau Hammerhead (my latest project)

The books are okay for loose reference but nothing of any major detail. I couldn't check the expensive hard-back books though as they were shrink wrapped

niCE!!!!! i love it!!!!!! nice detail. I was modeling something like that. But i had a lot of problems with the foots because it wasn0t real.. and animate something mechanical that doesn't follows basic fisics rules... it just doesn't work.
