F-14

Hey guys, long time since i posted a WIP here, anyway i am working on an F-14 tomcat, its part of the max fundementals course over at 3dbuzz. finished modeling the jot vert by vert for Zak, and i noticed at the end that there were things that were different between the model i made and the real jet, (great to have HEAPS of reference pics) so i have been tweaking the model getting the right shape in different parts, it was tricky as the way it had been modeled made adding details where i needed them difficult. i still have a long way to go, i want to model the machine guns on the nose, and if all goes well i will also build detailed retractable landing gear. and maybe an interior and at least pilot heads.... maybe... we'll see how crazy i decide to go on the details. cause i still have to unwrap this. once this is finished there will be an aircraft carrier and an oilrig, where i will animate the f-14 launch off the aircraft carrier and take out the oil rig. should look pretty cool when i'm done. anyway enough rambling on bring on the pics

As soon as I saw 'F-14' I thought 'max fundamentals'

It's looking really nice. I can't wait to see you blow up that oil rig!

i cant wait to blow it up either, but at the moment the videos in relation to building and blowing it up have not been recorded yet. luckly the class hasnt started yet so i have plenty of time to spend detailing my F-14. i at least want retractable landing gear. its kinda tricky following the tutorials, cause he says to use 1 method, and i want to use another, i followed his methods, and at times have needed to scrap that idea alltogether and model it my way, cause i wanted more details or whatever. just a few things go against my normal way of modeling, buy hey i have learnt some pretty cool stuff from these tutorials

keep an eye out for updates

Looking good eagle! What way was it modeled by? My usual way of doing aircraft is to start with a cylinder and make slices and scale where the shape changes but I would like to know any better ways as this way doesnt let me make complex planes like the f-14 for example.

It's looking great so far! F-14 Tomcat is one of my favorite aircraft! Soo beautiful and able to modify its wings' angle. It's too bad that USNavy put them away:

I wanted to do an aircraft carrier once but didn't find any good reference pictures  Good luck, it's a promising project!

thanks for the comments guys,

BlackJack: i am following a tut, so i modeled this differently to how i would normally approach such a plane. i started off with a spline cage for the centre of the fuselage, then a spline cage for the engine nacell area of the fuselage then converted them to editable poly and then attached them together. normally i would have gone in with a cylinder and a cut tool to get the geometry i needed. but hey, i am following a class and i am learning new modeling techniques

budweizzer: yeah the F-14 is a great plane. the variable geometry wings (swing wings) are very awesome, they also use them in the F-111 which is another cool plane. for the aircraft carrier i dont know if we are going to be using photographic reference, but we started off with really low detailed blueprints. maybe just modeling by the seat of our pants, probably the same with the oil rig.

RoyalMarine: as above, i started with splines and converted to editable poly. for the wings and horixontal stabilizer i started with bozes. nothing special there.

keep an eye out for updates

ok, seeing as my computer is having issues with the deatil of the jet, i dont be doing massively detailed landing gear, however i am making them retractable, front is done, now only back to go.

This looks amazing Eagle! I've always loved this jet, just rocks for some reason. It's the one I always chose when I flew flight simulators! Good job, and keep up the good work!
