Imperial Sentinel

I tried out the tutorial on the Imperial Sentinel last Saturday, was plenty helpful, although it seems to be missing an important bit (the engine) :P

Well anyway, after googling up some reference images and a bit of fiddling around with my imagination, I've come up with a modified design. There's still some stuff to do, but what do you think?

EDIT: Fixed a vertex issue I missed earlier.

Looks nice from what I can see. Any chance of you deleting those walls or changing the lighting so we can see the model better?

(I stick a plane in as the ground and set it to a shadow matte material (in max) so it picks up the floor shadows yet has no edges and shows through the environment colour.)

Shadow matte?

Well, I decided to do a bit of everything. Got rid of the walls, slapped a brighter light and zoomed in. Details shouldn't be a problem now.

I still need to do some smoothing work and more detailing before I can rig and animate it though.

That's much nicer, the detail is a lot clearer. I think you've made a good job of this mate.

Check out the section on "matte/shadow material" in help. It has many uses beyond WIP renders, you'll probably find it usefull.

We could do with a new tutorial showing how to make some oversides piece of mobile armour at the moment actually -specially now Im done with the new DVD set more or less. How about popping some suggestions for a new sponsor member set in - one I like best gets a month SM access to download it in

You could explain what you mean by that first. I'll start brainstorming once I get what you mean :P

Although if it's what I think it is, this one looks interesting if you're into the whole big guns thing.

Mashadar - Those are some cool looking mechs there - where are they from? I like the crouching second one especially.

Cris - would I be considered a deviant if I didn't suggest something GW based? Some of the Japanese genre mechs are incredible. Or somewhere in the middle with the Kev Walker (ex GW artist) style ABC Warriors from 2000AD?

Mahadar: Really good work. The detailings spot on. I especially like the pronounced fronal amour.

Cris: Super idea.
Can one of the mod's start a new thread concerning this, so this thread is'nt hijacked.

Thanks.

Good work!!

It's the Monster MKII, a destroid type of mecha from the anime series Macross.

Curiously enough though, pronouncing destroid sounds so much like destroyed. Which was what usually happened to that line of mecha in the anime. Lumber here, shoot there, get blown up.
