game dev character

well i`ve got round to having a crack at the game dev tut. to be honest, i`m finding this easier than i 1st thought, but then again i havn`t got to the texture mapping part yet lol.
i`ve done half the head, so what i`ll do is mirror it and adjust a few vertices around the mouth and eye browe.

looking good, however there are some things to try to keep in mind when unwrapping. try to keep all the squares the same size on ya model. see how some parts have large squares and some have small. if they are all even then you will be giving each part of your mesh an even distribution of pixels. also try to keep them all as squares. i see on the cheek area, they look a little distorted.

unwrapping is a fine art, personally i hate it with a passion, but take ya time, and when done corectly it will make your life easier when painting your texture

i unwrapped the heas again as too much strecthing was going on and now i have just textured it, i`ve learned a lot about photoshop whilst doing this bit and even started to enjoy it (not as much as modeling tho).
here`s a pic of the head.
got a question tho..... if i carry on and model the rest of the character, can i unwrap the rest of it without disrupting the head?
if so... how?
do i need to use layers or is it as simple as collapsing (can`t spell) the modify menu?
thanks for the tips eagle

his eyes are a bit far apart well if you are modelling a from a separate object then it wouldnt mess up your uv map but if it is all the same object then yes it will mess up the map. usually you model the charcter first then you map it and texture

just a little update. I`ve just spent the last 3hrs unwrapping this. think i`ve done a better job this time round with the head. ignore where the squares don`t match up as that is where the seams are that i made (you`ll see the seams in the second pic).

hoorayyy for the forum being back up .
i`ve finished the character texturing, i don`t think it looks too bad for a 1st attempt at any texturing. i only clocked up around 3300 poly`s so it could have more detail i guess.
next i think i`ll look at creating an eviroment to put the character in if i can find a tut anywhere.
