hey there everybody this is my first post here in the WIP section. I do have a character model that I have made it was my first character done with maya. I haven't figured out how to texture her.

I am pretty useless at modelling characters, although I know the best way to create an effective character is tonnes upopn tonnes of reference pictures.

I'd go all over the web and gather as many pictures of the kind of figure you are trying to create and constantly use them for reference.

You will achieve far more accurate results than attempting to model the character "blind", purely freehand.

Also a mirror on your desk, sounds crazy but is very good practice. Why not use yourself for reference where possible? Look at your own hands, see how your own muscles and skin flow etc.

Good luck, be sure to update with progress!

I believe www.the-blueprints.com have some blueprints of people, to help you out. Other than that, do as many tuts as possible. The problem with modeling people is that errors are instantly recognizable, as we know what we are supposed to look like.

here we go...

Looking at your WIP is see the folowing things:

-Her pose is not that great for rigging, better model her with her arms out.
-Her anatomy is way off at alot places.
-The structure of your mesh has some places that realy need to be fixed.

A ref for the hands:
http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g8...tomy_bones.jpg

But even better is to just look at your own hands, then you can view it from what ever angle you want.

here you have a link to a female reference, only her arms are down, so you have to cut those in ps and rotate them or just not use those to model from.

THIS LINK INCLUDES NUDE SO BE WARNED: http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g84/Xadeko/005.jpg

Just take a look at alot of anatomy and see what you can improve.

And if you post a wire we can have a look and see what you can improve.

I know my characters anatomy is off one thing it looks like I forgot to mention is that this character was from a reference source. I do have the original pic but its really hard to see woman in the drawing.

another thing I would like to point out is that this was a first time try. sure there are undesirible results but I feel I achive something with this character.

also in maya I figured out how to add color to my projects so I will try to give her proper flesh tone look.

For your first character piece, whilst it needs some work and refining it is still about 90000000000000000 times better than mine was
