This project is looking excellent! The detail is impressive with a real sense to realism.

If its not to much of a hassle, could you please point me in the right direction on the render settings you are using to create the clay style render with Vray.

I have bookmarked these threads. I cant wait to see a finished scene with the choo choo in.

Thanx for the replies.

I don't have Vray.

That's just MR and a skylight and final gather turned on.

(gave the train a slight blue-ish color...that's it)(I'm sick of white!)

The front and hook and cow catcher and wheels/bogy's are roughed out...not really 'correct' as it were.

Cow catcher too 'boxy' IMO.

Oh well, I started this last Saturday and worked on it in the evenings. I keep taking breaks from it 'cuz my eyes are bugging out.

Here's a diff. view:
(skylight washing out some of the side vent details...textures will really show off the detail I hope)

263,672 poly's so far.

Wire.

the modeling is really good, the only crit I have, as you pointed out, is the cowcatcher, I wouldn't say it's too boxy, I think you just need to round the edges slightly they're too sharp.

Update.

Started to unwrap and thought twice about it.....

Just not ready to texture yet.....well I could...but I will regret it.

I want this model to be really detailed and now I am going back to the drawing board and revamping things.

Also, I want this to be my best.
Plus I found a website that has a lot of trains on it for ref:

http://www.sourwy.railfan.net/local_rail_fan_shots.htm

I will work on it from time to time, and just go nuts with details....probably start texturing in a few months, after making sure it looks right.

Some changes:

A little further next morning:
