Badger 2007

At this point I just finished the 4th video in this series. I wanted to post my progress so far. I rendered the images with a simple Architectural material and max default lights.

Looking good, keep going. I am doing the same tutorial and learning a lot of new things.

I'm doing this same tutorial right now, and I'm learning a ton. I'm a bit further along than your renders there, but not much ... and your door looks better than mine. I need to fix the two cylinders on the bottom, mine are a little off size-wize. Yours look spot on.

Your Badger is looking cool!

When I did my Badger, I put a custom attribute and made a spinner control open and close (raise and lower) the ramp/door.

Easy to animate and it just looked cool.

I think I stuck a light in the rear cabin as well.

The Badger is a cool ship.

I'm actually looking forward to finishing my Badger, just so I can continue adding little touches to it here and there with what I've learned so far.

Can't wait to see more updates, Johnswan. Have you encountered any problems yet? I had a big issue with Max crashing on me a few times, but I'm moving forward again. I save like it's my religion now.

Thanks for the comments

So far no problems, except for some minor vertex cleanups after chamfering or detaching and re-attaching elements or objects. Getting nice smooth surfaces after those actions or moving vertices can be a problem sometimes.

I want to set up some temp lighting to present my pics more clearly. I'd like the highlights and shadows to bring out the forms better.

I'll be attending Siggraph this week so I may have to put my model on hold for a while. I will try to find time before I leave. If not - then definitly when I return. This is a project I want o complete.

I ran into a high-poly count issue with my old computer when I did this tute.
The screen got very laggy when I panned, zoomed, etc.

Got a new computer - no worries!

Out of curiosity, what were the specs of the old vs the new computer?

Had a chance to work on the model. Just added some of the work on the hull of the ship I had a little trouble doing the chamfers on the new parts - max9 kept on crashing whenever I attempted to chamfer.

you should reinstall, i often have this kind of problem after a crash or reboot ... cause max 9 have files in my documents, and my documents is kind of saved at shutdown, if he can't you could have corrupted files ... and then more crashes ^^'

In all case, reinstalling max solved problems for me
