Sci-Fi Rifle

So I haven't done any 3D in like 5 weeks, maybe more, partly due to Bloodstock and a number of 21st's.

Instead of bowling back into my F430 Transformer I thought I'd start a little side project of modelling and texturing a Sci-Fi Rifle. The model will be based around the M41-A Pulse Rifle from Aliens, where I'll change parts I don't like and make it my own. I like shotgun attachment so I will start with that and go from there.

If you have no idea what the Aliens Rifle looks like, here it is as well as my start. Bullet chamber is a little off so I'll probably fake it, casing needs to be thinner as well:

C&C, ideas etc welcome

Who looks at the side of their rifle to find out how many rounds/energy they have left.

If you are in a fire fight it should be right there, on top of the weapon, so you can see it while your shotting, without having to tilt the weapon to the side. Maybe you could do something a little more creative with that.

Other then that, nothing to crit on so far, spent a little while comparing yours with the reference and didn't see anything to comment on. Other then it looks good so far.

I remember seeing bullet number hitting 0 in Starcraft intro. Poor marine

I really like what you did so far too.

Awesome sci-fi weapon, mate. Good job so far!

Question: did the M41-A have three components? Assault Rifle, Grenade Launcher and Shotgun? I didn't know about the shotgun.

You always pick great projects, this is one I attempted when I first started 3d safe to say it didnt turn out very well lol.

Are you modeling it all from that one image?

Looks like a good solid start, looking forward to seeing this one progress, im sure it will rock!
