I bought the Expert Shipwight Pack the other day and started on the Stormbringer. I haven't made a ship yet, only mechs and robots so this is new for me, as far as modeling concepts go. I was going to start the Cutty first, but this ship is just awesome looking so I had to crack this first. Here's the engine. The turbine tip in the front has a Chrome material on it and because I have no environment in my scene it looks like a blob where it hits the air. |

Let me be the first to say it looks like a great start, looking forward to seeing some more work.

Thanks!!
I designed my wing lock a little differently then what's on the tutorial. I gave mine a heavier look and instead of using wheels, mine is more like a magnetic track unit. Similar to what a roller coaster would have. I'm just throwing this up because I used some of the modeling concepts I've learned through other Palace tutorials I've done.
Updated lock with pivot tip.

I'm up to the singer now. Modeling that engine cowl was quite the project. Funny how the large stuff can go fast but then the smaller parts can be a test of will. This project rocks!! Spaceships!!!!
Not a great render at all, but it's purely for progress documenting. I've got some nice materials in waiting. |

I know what you mean about small things that are testing your will lol. And it really bothers me when i think that the majority of people would never notice it if they looked at the model. But when i am doing something by myself and not following a tutorial i get really bothered if there is a 3" piece that is just flat. One of those things i have to get under control i suppose.
Everything is looking great by the way, i cant wait to start that project looks really cool

Bright white backgrounds make my eyes bleed.
Looks like some nice progress so far.

Just finished the add-on part on the top of the large 3rd engine. I think his model may be bigger than anything I've done before. I hope my machine can handle the rest of it. So far it's running well, but I don't think I'm even half way done. |

Looks good, however I spot a lot of double chamfers with horrible corners. That is due to selecting horizontal and vertical edges and double chamfering them together, and if you are unwrapping this the nightmare will become apparent.
A better way is to select the horizontal edges only and double chamfer them, then do the same on the vertical ones as well but not together. It makes the base polygon an ngon but as there will be a huge amount of those in this model anyways, and that renderers can render non-planar faces, plus no sub-d; it makes no difference.

Wow... thanks for the tip. I had no idea this could be an issue, but I see what you mean. Each corner has like a star, rather then being squared up. See... these are things that you would never learn without a place like 3D-Palace. I'll keep this in mind on my future builds.
