| | | Steampunk Inspired
Okay so I was taking a look at the Steampunk Challenge at CGSociety, and I kinda got inspired by a monocycle design by one of the entrants. Michael Dashow's Entry
I'd hope this is allowed.
I am interested in trying something a bit more mechanical and whimsical.
Here is a basic start.
Let me know what you guys think. |

may i suggest that you not post something this early in the stages of development. i mean... it's a wheel? what's there to think of it?

and i'm not really trying to sound like an ass (although i do often come across as such), just trying to be helpful. you'll probably get more of a response to this thread once you show more of what your idea is (you could work up a concept of your own and show that), that'd be cool.
anyway, keep it up, it looks like a good start. i can't say "your wheel sucks" 'cause it doesn't, the low render settings make plenty of sense, i wouldn't spend any time making an overly pretty high quality render of a wheel either.

Even though Zergy has a point I really like the style of the render on this one. It's almost like a drawn cartoon! There are quite many different variations in a wheel even though it is a wheel!

Did you extrude geometry from the outer wheel, or just model a separate element and rotate/cloned it?
looks nice.

I started with a circle, made it renderable. Then I took the outer half of the editable poly and detached it. I played around until I liked the tire pattern a bit. The inner rim was created from the other half, from there I extruded in.
quite simple and it shows. I am hoping to work out the mechanical bits tonight at least the general design. I probably won't model much just draw out some concepts.
I hate being sick, I just want to crawl into bed and stay there for a week.

I see absolutely no problem with posting progress from the first part or a single item. I do it, and I will continue to do it. If you don't like looking at a single item, just close the thread. I like to see progress from start to finish and there's no harm in doing so. Like a full project history.
