Fishing net model/tut

Hi guys,

hows everyone today?

I'v heard good things about this place and was wondering if any of you guys could help me out. I need to model a subsea fishing net for my work, i.e one that has been lying at the bottom of the sea for some time and im not sure how to start!

I'm quite the newb at max, having used sketchup for some time. Are there any tutorials or free models of fishing nets that anyoine could provide me with?

Thanks in advance!

cameroon

Funny enough fishing nets aren't the sort of things that normally come up in a tutorial, but I am pretty sure some plines could do that quite easily

Yeah, I'd use splines, set them to renderable and apply a rope type texture to them.

There is a modifier which does this with one click. FLUXITY would know what im on about.

Ill ask if what the modifier was.

Lattice Modifier can make it, or Make Shape from Selection (with all the edges selected of course)

Just make a plane, FFD or soft selection if you need it shaped. Then use any of the two methods above.

edit: number of segments would define the density of it, of course

try this way of creating a net --------------

- create a plane with about 100x100 segments and R-click and Convert-to-Polys

- choose the Polygon Sub-Object level and drag over the entire object to select the polys

- hit delete and you should be left with all Edges now

- select the Edges and go to the Parameters section on the right. In the first section, click Show in Viewport and Renderer and enter 1.0, 24,0.0. The Edges will now look like a mesh or net.

- change the values to your own liking if too big or small.

- to make the net look like it's been sitting on the seabed, add a Cloth modifier and let it drape over a lumpy object.( but that's a whole new Tutorial : } )

sorry if this message is sent twice!

For the fishnet object you could try this method --------------

- create a Plane with about 100x100 Segments and then Convert-to-Polys.

- go to the Sub-Object level and click Polygon and drag over the whole object and press Delete

- choose the edges Sub-Object level and Select the entire object.

- go over to the Parameters on the right and open the first dropdown and click Show in Viewport and Show in Render.

- input 1.0, 24, 0.0 and the object will should look like a mesh or net now. try changing the values to your own liking.

- after reading the previous "Cloth" threads in this group you can go to the next step to make the net object drape over a lumpy object to make it appear it's lying on the bottom of the sea.

HTH
