Recommendation of 3ds max books
by cameroon95 08-14-2008, 10:57 AM

Hi guys,
]
Im wondering if anyone can recommend me some 3ds max books for learning. I'v been trying to learn for approx six months now but I'm still very much a beginner. I think the 3ds max bible would be a wise purchese but I would like advice on which other books/software I should buy.

Thanks for your time

Cameroon

cameroon95. Hi there regarding books the Max Bible can be useful if you actually prefer reading a book to scrolling through the MAX help file. To use it solely as toilet paper as Cris suggests would cause real problems for your plumbing so I don't reccomend it except in rationed amounts.
Seriously though your best bet would be to start with a tutorial such as the dreadnought get used to the methods, then when you are ready try a more advanced tutorial. I found 3D a real struggle to begin with trying to work from books, everything I've learnt of value has been from 3D Palace tutorials, dvd sets and feedback from kind people on the forums. ( Cris should be paying me for saying this!)

The best book I did read was Deconstructing the Elements 2nd Edition, brilliant book like Cris says, although it focuses on particle systems, which I wouldn't mess with until you comfortable. Best of luck in your modelling.

I have 3ds max bible 8.

I use it pretty much purely as a reference. Or to try and look stuff up when I really don't know what it is I am looking for.

Hi and thanks for your fast answer.

When I bought the tuts from them i also left feedback concerning this issue and at the time they said something like they told you Tsukiyono.
Anyway I think I'll re-watch those I have and buy some more... I also have an excellent book about Mental Ray - Rendering with mental ray & 3ds Max - and it has a support site has well... unfortunatelly with Uni in it's final year I haven't had the chance to start reading it...

I agree with Sandy, very good books from 3dats, even though I only have read half the beginners book. Good written and even though I know most of the stuff I have learnt some tricks that I was unaware of.

They where alittle expensive compared to other books but they are hardback and full color and I would say one in a kind at the moment, at least I haven't found equal interesting books.
